VSNS Rules and Recommendations

This document is in preparation.

Some preliminary thoughts on future VSNS activities and courses are included below.

	- it has to be done *well*
	- it's a *lot* of work
	- well-defined subjects (F90) are easier to do on a collaborative
basis than broad ones (e.g. "Truth")
	- are there going to be real-life students?
	- how interactive is it going to be; or is the web material 'read-only'
	- if interactive, how do you get feedback?
	- if there are several consultants, how do they agree what to cover
	- is there assessment? for accreditation?
	- why put the course on the Web?
		- access to new technology
		- world-class consultants
		- collation of reference material
		- differences of culture internationally
And here are some ingredients of the 'VSNS-starter pack' under construction:

1	- (Short) MISSION statement (basically what was already
written for the GNA catalogue (Sept 94).
2	- GUIDELINES in the form of first questions to prospective
          course providers - see above.
3	- List of the concrete offers from VSNS: this will, in the next
months, consist of a list of achievements based on the Protein
Structure and the C++ course technology, the administrative side
          etc.
4	- List of what VSNS hopes to become and offer in the future.
5	- List of REFERENCES in the form of participating institutions,
individuals (to inquire about VSNS and/or collaboration with
	  VSNS)
6	- Blurb explaining the relationship to GNA and how it may be
	  used.
