Approved on the 3rd Meeting of the Preparation Group, 25 Oct 1994.
We shall be committed to providing a prototype Internet course in Biocomputing, with a strong emphasis on Sequence Analysis. The course shall be free of charge to interested students, consisting of the following components:
1. A peer-reviewed hypertext book, including exercises, each chapter of which comprising one course unit (1 week). The text shall be coherent, and a unified notation shall be used. The core of the book shall cover the main areas of Sequence Analysis. The book shall be understandable by students close to the completion of their undergraduate studies, as outlined in the "Students' academic prerequisites" section.
2. During the course, each instructor will hold online discussions on BioMOO with the students in his/her study group, on a weekly basis. He/She or one of his/her collaborators will review and grade the homework. Each instructor will be available for the student's personal questions, either during regular office hours at BioMOO, or via email. Further details will be given in the standard letter of admission sent by the instructor.
3. Mailing lists shall be established for detailed discussions, and students' questions sent to these lists shall be answered by the author of the chapter in question.
