Students' minimum academic prerequisites. The students shall be able to follow the class without difficulties, and shall have knowledge equivalent to a late undergraduate (senior) or early graduate level. To this end, the following minimum requirements have to be fulfilled. - Mathematics: Algebra and Calculus, undergraduate level. - Undergraduate level courses in _either_ Computer Science _or_ Molecular Biology. APPROVED 1st meeting, Sep 20, 1994. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Minimal Rules and Regulations. The Preparation Group established itself on the MOO meeting on 20 Sep 1994. It shall hold regular meetings via MOO at least once a month, and it shall convene on a weekly basis during the course. Special meetings may be called by any member of the group, and by the appropiate VSNS bodies. Meetings need to be announced at least 3 working days in advance. Every member of the Preparation Group shall have one vote, decisions will be made by simple majority. A chairperson shall be elected. In case of a tie, the chairperson shall have two votes. A quorum of 50% is needed. Minutes of the meetings shall be prepared by the chairperson, and sent to all members of the group, within 3 working days. Anyone may appeal the group's decisions by contacting the appropiate VSNS body, currently gna-vsns-organizers@tsun.desy.de. He/She should however contact the course coordinator first, since most grievances can be dealt with internally. Upon recommandation of the appropiate VSNS body, the decision in question shall be reconsidered by the Preparation Group, and in general it shall follow the advice given by VSNS. The appointment of new faculty and amendments to these "Minimal Rules and Regulations" shall follow the same rules. However, changes to this document and to the mission statement shall require a qualified majority of 2/3. The editorial process for the hypertext book (peer review, etc) shall follow the path established by scholarly journals.
